HotelTonight – Great Hotels in North Shore Long Island
The North Shore of Long Island is known as the "Gold Coast," given its stretch of opulent mansions that have been home to some of America's wealthiest families. You are likely already familiar with this beautiful, ritzy area of Long Island, as it was immortalized in F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby." During a summer recent trip to New York, I decided that I too wanted to see what life was like for a Gatsby type, so I pulled up my HotelTonight app and booked a last-minute hotel on Long Island's North Shore. Within minutes on the app, I had found the perfect Long Island hotel, and I was ready to explore one of the priciest zip codes in the country.
The Heritage Trail
One of the reasons I was drawn to the North Shore was because of its rich history, so I knew I wanted to spend time exploring the Heritage Trail, which passes sprawling mansions (the likes of which inspired the setting of "The Great Gatsby"), Theodore Roosevelt's summer home, and many former estates that have been converted for public use. Because of this, I was able to stroll the grounds and gardens of gorgeous estates that were once home to the families of America's elite.
Naturally, I couldn't visit the North Shore of Long Island without spending some time on the beach. The beaches in the North Shore are a bit rockier and more secluded than the ones on the South Shore, but they are still beautiful and peaceful. And, since it was just a short drive away, I later hopped over to the South Shore so that I could experience the best beaches on Long Island. After a full day of beach hopping, I was relaxed, happy, tired and, unfortunately, a bit sunburnt.
When you think of Long Island, you probably don't immediately think of wineries, but Long Island has a surprisingly exciting wine country. Since my hotel was located near a cluster of wineries, I decided to spend one afternoon wine tasting and actually discovered that Long Island wine is quite excellent. Plus, the atmosphere and environment of these picturesque wineries made it an afternoon to remember, and by the end of the day I was sad at the thought of leaving Long Island to travel back to the city.
HotelTonight – Long Island North Shore Hotels at Your Fingertips
Long Island has been New Yorkers' hidden gem for decades, but few tourists actually head to the island to enjoy its beautiful beaches, laidback lifestyle and charm. I was so glad I decided to get out of the city to experience life on Long Island's North Shore, because it was certainly one of the most memorable parts of my trip. This spur-of-the-moment North Shore getaway wouldn't have been as easy to plan without HotelTonight, which helped me book a great North Shore hotel in Long Island in a few quick taps on my phone. My HotelTonight app made it possible for me to enjoy a carefree weekend in beautiful Long Island.
