HotelTonight – Jackson Heights Queens Hotels
The thing about New York City is that you can walk down just about any street anywhere in the five boroughs and see all sorts of different people from different parts of the world, living together and doing their thing. New York really is a mosaic, and it seems like everywhere I go when I'm there I see and experience something new. I enjoy that perhaps more than anything else with regards to the Big Apple, and I've long been a big fan of traveling there. Fortunately, I get to head that way for work quite often, so I'm always up for spending whatever time I can in a place I haven't yet explored or discovered. On my last work trip there, I decided to carve out 24 hours for myself so that I could take a nice, deep look at the Jackson Heights neighborhood in Queens. I hadn't been there before, but I wanted to see what life was like for the locals. I wasn't concerned about finding a place to stay, either, as I travel with my HotelTonight app. I'd find a Jackson Heights Queens hotel room in seconds when it was time.
The Cultural Mix
I mentioned above how you can walk down the streets in New York and hear all sorts of different languages. In Jackson Heights, I probably heard 20 different languages on every block. I saw people whose ancestors came from Europe, others who had immigrated from Asia, some people from Africa, others from Latin America and just about anywhere else you could think of or point to on a map. It was a beautiful melting pot and one where it felt like everyone was completely welcome. I stopped and talked with a few people and everyone was proud of their homes.
The Shopping
If you like to browse, you need to spend a day or even more in Jackson Heights. If you do so you should be prepared to see a lot of different things. After all, there are countless cultures here that go out and purchase things in this part of the world, so you'll find clothing of all different styles, food from just about every type of cuisine and even knickknacks for the home that are so varied I began to lose track of what I had seen and what I had not. Once again, it was a stimulating way to get to know a neighborhood.
The Cuisine
Obviously, a neighborhood with this many different cultures is going to have a lot of different choices when it's time to eat. I was starving after all of the walking and talking I had done that day, so I decided I was in the mood for some dinner from… Uruguay. I had never had Uruguayan food, but I love meat, and that's what you're going to get when you eat this type of cuisine. I had beef that was marinated wonderfully and cooked perfectly along with some hearty vegetables.
