HotelTonight – Woodley Park Hotels at the Ready

Before I started traveling to Washington, D.C. for work regularly, I always thought of it as a big government town. That's not necessarily inaccurate, but implicit in that internal label for me was the notion that it was relatively homogeneous, meaning if I saw one part of the District of Columbia, I'd basically seen all of it. It didn't take long for me to discover how wrong I was in that regard, as every time I was there I found something new and interesting. The only problem was that when I was there, I had almost no time to myself, so whatever entertainment I did find was something I stumbled upon between meetings. That all changed when I was there recently, as a scheduling error meant that I had 24 hours to myself to end my trip. The only catch was that I had to find a place to stay on my final night if I wanted to keep my original flight. I decided to use that day to see the Woodley Park neighborhood. I wasn't concerned about lodging, as I'd book a Woodley Park hotel room as soon as I needed one.

The Zoo

I'm not normally a big fan of visiting a place's biggest attraction, as I don't like doing touristy things that don't really give you a flavor of what a place is like. However, I had been told that the Smithsonian National Zoo was not a tourist trap by any means. I decided to go see it, and that was correct – most of the people I saw there were locals. The zoo itself was incredible, and yes, I did get a good look at the giant pandas that call the zoo home. It was a beautiful day, so I spent several hours there looking at exhibits

The Park

The most famous park for locals in the area is known as Rock Creek Park, and since I was outside, I thought I'd continue enjoying the sun. I headed over there to see it, and it was a gorgeous setting. It was incredibly green and wide-open, the trees provided all sorts of shade and the hiking trails went on for miles, which was surprising considering I was in the middle of a densely populated area. I took a lot of photos of some of the natural scenes I witnessed and had a great time.

The Dining

I've always been a sucker for Cajun food. I never thought I'd be having that for dinner that day, but a lady at the park told me about a restaurant that was locally famous for it. I gave it a try, and encountered an unassuming place that smelled amazing. I had the crawfish, and I think I ate about half of my weight in them by the time I had finally had enough. They tasted as though they had been taken directly from the Bayou and placed on my table, as they were sweet and succulent.

HotelTonight – Woodley Park Hotels Just for You

I was full, happy and satisfied that I had gotten to know another part of Washington, D.C. Now it was time to rest. I opened my HotelTonight app and booked a Woodley Park hotel in seconds. It was only a couple of blocks away, and I looked forward to a night of deep sleep and getting back into the routine the next day.
