HotelTonight – Last-Minute Hotel Deals in Penn's Landing Philadelphia

Philadelphia locals know that during the summertime, their city is one of the coolest places to live. After all, they get to enjoy an expansive, developed waterfront that offers great dining and entertainment as well as beautiful views of the Delaware River. When I embarked on a spur-of-the-moment trip to Philadelphia this summer, I knew I wanted to stay close to all of the action at the waterfront, so I relied on HotelTonight to help me book a last-minute hotel near Penn's Landing. It ended up being the perfect location for my brief Philadelphia getaway, because I was able to explore the city on foot and also kick back, relax and enjoy the fun and excitement of the waterfront.

Spruce Street Harbor Park

Situated right along the Delaware River is the Spruce Street Harbor Park, widely regarded as one of the best urban beaches in the world. This fun, unique waterfront area is quite popular among the locals, who head to the Harbor Park after work for food and drinks and on the weekends to enjoy their sun-filled Saturdays along the river. Comprised of a series of floating barges, this urban beach offers a great selection of food, drinks and entertainment. On my first night in Philadelphia, I visited the Spruce Street Harbor Park beer garden and listened to live music in front of the beautiful backdrop of the Delaware River.

The Historic District

Right outside of Penn's Landing is Philadelphia's Historic District, the very first World Heritage Site in the U.S. This neighborhood is known as the birthplace of the country, so naturally it's home to many important historic sites, such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. There's so much to do and see in the Historic District that you could easily spend an entire day exploring the neighborhood. Anyone interested in American history shouldn't visit Philadelphia without wandering through this beautifully preserved Historic District.

The Marina

Philadelphia's waterfront isn't great just for pretty views--it's also the place to be if you want to partake in water activities. In Penn's Landing Marina, you can head out onto the water and kayak, paddle boat, or stand-up paddleboard. Since I was in Philadelphia on a warm summer day, I decided to join the locals and hop on a stand-up paddleboard, and I enjoyed the afternoon sunshine along the river just like I would if I lived in Philadelphia.
