HotelTonight – Old City Philadelphia Hotels Available
Philadelphia's Old City is widely considered the birthplace of the nation, so naturally this historic district is Philadelphia's biggest tourist hub. Even though I try to stay away from busy tourist spots when I travel, I couldn't miss the chance to immerse myself in the beautiful, cobbled streets of the Old City. After all, you'll find many more locals in Old City than tourists, because this neighborhood is home to much more than just historical landmarks and museums--it's also a local hot spot for great dining, shopping and nightlife. Don't be fooled by its rich history and old buildings--on top of its Old World charm, Old City has a modern, lively energy that has made it one of Philadelphia's most popular areas, which is why I decided to book my hotel in Old City Philadelphia through HotelTonight during my recent trip to Pennsylvania. Within minutes on HotelTonight's app, I had a charming hotel room waiting for me in the heart of this historic district, and I was ready to learn about the history and experience the culture of Old City for myself.
One of my favorite areas in all of Philadelphia is the waterfront, particularly Penn's Landing. This section along the Delaware River is a go-to spot for locals who want to exercise along a scenic path, socialize with friends and enjoy one of the many regular entertainment events held at the Spruce Street Harbor Park. While staying in Old City, I made it a point to run along Penn's Landing every morning so that I could take advantage of this beautiful area just like I would if I were a local.
It's pretty much impossible to wander through Old City without stumbling upon some major landmark or historic site, but don't think of this neighborhood like a museum. Rather, it's a vibrant, popular neighborhood where locals love to shop, dine and play. One of the liveliest stretches in Old City is 2nd Street, which features a number of locally beloved bars, independent boutiques and even art galleries. If you want to get a feel for the Old City that locals love, you'll definitely want to take a stroll down 2nd Street.
Sure, Independence Mall is a major tourist destination, but even locals appreciate the history and legacy of Old Town Philadelphia. Whether you're planning on spending significant time at historic institutions like the Liberty Bell Center and the National Constitution Center or not, you still shouldn't skip Independence Mall entirely while visiting Old Town.
