HotelTonight – New Mexico Hotels at the Drop of a Hat

Who wouldn't want to visit a place known as the Land of Enchantment? I certainly would, and one of the things that has always been on my mind is that I had never seen New Mexico. There was so much to see and do here, I was told, that you could lose yourself for days at a time. That's exactly how I like to travel--I like to wander around from place to place and see where the road leads me. I decided that my next vacation would be a trip to New Mexico. The only thing I wanted to make sure of before I left is that I would have a resource available to me in case I needed to find a hotel room in New Mexico at the last minute. Other than that, I didn't really want to plan ahead too much, as that's what I do every day as it is.

I pulled out my phone, as that was going to be the only piece of technology I would have with me while I was traveling. I found an app called HotelTonight and opened it. I liked the way it looked and searched for New Mexico hotels. There were a lot of different choices available, and the choices appeared to be very nice properties that were asking for reasonable rates. I chose one for the first night I'd be there, and I could not believe how easy the booking process was. Within a few swipes and taps, I had a room booked and confirmed. There was only one thing left to do, and that was a bit of research on interesting facts about New Mexico, as that's a good way in my opinion to get some ideas about where to go and what to see.

New Mexico Has Some Very Old Places

One of the more memorable places I saw in New Mexico was called Taos Pueblo. When you think of settlements that are thousands of years old, you tend to think of Europe, Asia or Africa. There's a place that old in New Mexico. Taos Pueblo is a unique structure that's made of adobe, and experts believe that it was originally build around 1,000 A.D. However, several scientists believe that people have lived here for upwards of 5,000 years. It's hard to imagine a place so old existing in a state and a country that's so relatively new.

New Mexico's Capital Is Way Up There

When people think of cities with high elevation, many will think of Denver, as it's about a mile above sea level. That's nothing compared to Santa Fe. The capital of New Mexico is nearly 7,200 feet above sea level, or about 2,000 feet higher than Denver. Santa Fe is more than just high elevation. The culture, the incredible food and the arts scene are unlike anything I had ever experienced anywhere in the United States or even in other countries. I could have spent a week here and enjoyed every minute of it.

New Mexico Has Every Form of Nature

Most people think of New Mexico as a dry, arid place that's dominated by desert. Yes, there is a lot of desert here that is distinctly beautiful. However, as I traveled from places like Albuquerque to Santa Fe to Las Cruces, I noticed that there were mountains, forests, streams and just about everything else you could ever imagine. I spent time wading in streams, hiking in mountains and wondering if I'd ever find the edge of the forest I was hiking in at the time.

New Mexico Is Home to Cows

When you think of cows, you tend to think of places like Wisconsin, Vermont or even California, as all are known as bovine havens for one reason or another. However, according to official statistics, there are actually more cows in New Mexico than people. I explored a few of the thousands of ranches that are here, and there was livestock galore. I also did so on unpaved roads most of the time, as more than 75 percent of roads here are not paved. It's really an interesting way to travel and it provides you with a new perspective on what life is like in some corners of the United States.

HotelTonight – New Mexico Hotels Are Available

As I made my way back to the airport for my flight home, I thought back on what an incredible journey this had been. I had seen history, culture and so many new things that I could never even come close to counting them. I also found a new travel companion in HotelTonight. This fantastic app helped me find a hotel room in New Mexico at the last minute on more than one occasion. I looked forward to traveling with HotelTonight in the future.
