Murray Avenue

One of the reasons why Pittsburgh locals love Squirrel Hill is for its variety of dining and shopping options. All along Murray Avenue, you'll find quirky boutiques, cool coffee shops and one restaurant after another. There are so many food options in Squirrel Hill that you will actually have a difficult time deciding what cuisine you want to eat. From Chinese and Thai to Italian and Turkish, Squirrel Hill provides no shortage of great eateries.

The Jewish Neighborhood

Squirrel Hill is a historically Jewish neighborhood, thus you'll stumble upon many Jewish bistros, bookstores and kosher butcher stores as you wander through the streets of Squirrel Hill. There are also more than three synagogues in the neighborhood, so Squirrel Hill is a great place to learn about Jewish culture and heritage. After all, it's the epicenter for Jewish culture in Pittsburgh and still remains one of the largest Jewish communities in the country.

Schenley Park

Pittsburgh has an impressive selection of parks and green spaces, but few are as cool as Schenley Park. This urban green space sprawls over 456 acres and features several miles of hiking trails. Not only does Schenley Park provide a great recreational space for locals to walk, run and bike, but it also provides areas for swimming, golfing and even ice-skating. If you want to get active and experience Squirrel Hill like a real local, you should definitely hit the trails in Schenley Park, even if you only have time for a quick afternoon walk. Once you see the beauty and the sheer size of Schenley Park, you'll realize why it's one of locals' favorite spots in all of Pittsburgh.
