HotelTonight – Book Your Hotel in Downtown San Antonio
San Antonio is best known as home of the Alamo, but this diverse Texan city has so much more to offer than a famous battle site. The fusion of Mexican and Texan cultures makes San Antonio one of the most colorful, captivating cities in the U.S., and I can't seem to stay away from San Antonio. Even though I've visited this vibrant city many times, there's something about the city that keeps drawing me back, and I recently decided to return to San Antonio to explore more of this historic town. Whenever I travel, I love staying in the heart of the action, so I decided to book a hotel in downtown San Antonio. To book my last-minute San Antonio hotel, I simply pulled up my HotelTonight app on my phone. Within minutes, I had a great hotel room waiting for me in the heart of this beautiful, multicultural downtown.
The River Walk
Aside from the Alamo, the River Walk is San Antonio's most iconic attraction. This famous waterway winds through the heart of downtown, and it is lined with popular restaurants, shops and even museums. While there's no doubt that the River Walk is a major tourist destination, this area is also widely beloved among locals, who frequent the River Walk for fun nights out or to enjoy the best of their city on the weekends. Whenever I find myself back in San Antonio, the River Walk is always my first stop, and I always seem to discover something new and exciting along this picturesque waterfront.
As one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Antonio, La Villita Historic Arts Village is one of my favorite areas in the city. La Villita was first settled nearly 300 years ago, and you can get a sense for the area's rich history just by wandering its streets. Today, La Villita is an arts district, and here you will find great regional arts from local artists and artisans. As you wander through La Villita, you'll pass shops and galleries featuring beautiful textiles and sculptures, authentic folk art and handcrafted jewelry, which is why La Villita is always my go-to destination for finding unique souvenirs from San Antonio.
One of the main reasons I find San Antonio so fascinating is its striking mix of cultures, and you'll see this beautiful cultural mix in Market Square. Considered the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico, Market Square is where you should go if you want to experience the energy, color, and excitement of Mexico. There are over 100 vendors in Market Square, where you can taste authentic Mexican cuisine and embrace the rich culture of San Antonio.
