HotelTonight – Bywater New Orleans Hotel Rooms

Anyone who has spent any time in New Orleans understands and remembers what it's like to relax and let your hair down in the Big Easy. This is a city that is made for fun and relaxation, and it's one where a lot of memories have been made over the years. However, it's also a place with little pocket communities that are all critically important in terms of the overall fabric that is the Crescent City. I have started to understand this in recent years. I've been traveling to New Orleans for a long time, but it was only on my last few trips there that I've been doing things a bit differently. Instead of just having fun in the French Quarter and other parts of town, I've been taking 24 hours and exploring one specific neighborhood. On my last trip, one of the places I chose to explore in this manner was the Bywater neighborhood. I wasn't concerned about lodging, as I never am when I travel. That's because I have HotelTonight, an app that found me a Bywater New Orleans hotel room in seconds as soon as I was ready to call it a day.

The Eclectic Mix

Bywater is not at all far from the French Quarter and other parts of the city where tourists tend to flock. In terms of vibe, it may as well be on another galaxy. This is a laid-back place filled with locals, but it's quite an eclectic mix of locals. You'll find a lot of people here who have been living in New Orleans for their entire lives and whose families have been here for generations. You'll also find a lot of younger people here who have recently moved from somewhere else and who want to start out in life in an interesting place.

The Scenery

If you notice color at all in any context, you'll be overwhelmed with the colors you'll encounter when you spend time in Bywater. As you walk down the street, you'll see homes that are all sorts of different bright hues, from fluorescent purple to pale orange to bright red. It all seems to work quite nicely, though, and in some ways I felt like I was walking through a Caribbean town as opposed to a place in the United States. The entire community has an artistic feel to it based on the colorful nature of the homes.

The Cuisine

The Bywater is naturally going to be home to a lot of very nice restaurants given the number of young movers and shakers who live here. I wanted to have a traditional New Orleans dinner, so I went to a place that is known for its wine, small plates, patio seating and live music. All of those things came together perfectly for a meal that I won't soon forget. I had a bowl of gumbo that was filled with seafood and sausage, and wine that served as the perfect complement.
