I was making a long drive home, after two days of long business meetings in St. Louis, when I needed a break. The meetings had been long and stressful, and I needed to find a way to relax and unwind. I pulled off the highway in Rolla and decided to see what the town had to offer. I knew finding a place to stay wouldn't be a problem thanks to the HotelTonight app, which left me free to enjoy a carefree day in town.
The Area
Rolla is located in central Missouri and is the county seat of Phelps County. The town is surrounded by beautiful scenery and is near several rivers, including the Gasconade River and the Little Piney Creek. Rolla is also near the Mark Twain National Forest, making it a great place to visit for anyone who loves the outdoors. In addition to that, there are plenty of great restaurants, shops and things to do in town. I could tell, as soon as I pulled into town, that I was going to love my day in Rolla.
Things to Do
I decided to start off my day in Rolla with a visit to the Mark Twain National Forest. It was great to get outside and spend some time in the outdoors. The forest was beautiful and so peaceful. After that, I visited a local museum dedicated to the geology of the area. I loved being able to learn about some of the geological history of the area. Then I decided to visit some of the local shops in town, and had a great time shopping and checking out the stores. I was surprised at how much Rolla had to offer for being a small town. I'll definitely be making another trip to town.
The Food
Whenever I visit a new area, I love to try the best of the local food. I asked some locals for suggestions on where to eat. Several people suggested I try a little BBQ place in town. So I headed to Randy's Roadkill BBQ and Grill. I was so glad to eat there, because the food was amazing. I ordered a side of ribs, and the meat was practically falling off the bone. It was some of the best barbecues I've ever had, and I'll make sure to tell anyone I know who is passing through town about the restaurant.

Once I'd finished dinner, I was feeling tired and ready to get some rest for the night. I've had some problems in the past finding a place to stay on short notice, but I didn't have anything to worry about this time thanks to the HotelTonight app. I opened up the app and, in a few minutes, I'd booked a great room in town. I was so glad to spend a day in Rolla before heading home. It was the perfect way to relax after some stressful meetings and was just what I needed.
