HotelTonight – Michigan Hotels in Moments

I really enjoy just taking off for a few days and exploring a new place. I don't even need a specific reason for traveling to a particular destination, although when it comes to Michigan, I visited recently simply because I had never been there before. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I did know that my usual approach of simply following the road wherever it goes, so to speak, would serve me well as there is a lot to see and do there. I was excited about getting to know a new place, but I wasn't sure about where I was going to stay on any given night given that I didn't know where I'd wind up and I didn't know what hotels were available in a particular place. I would need to find Michigan hotels at the last minute, so I wanted to have at least a bit of a plan for handling that.

I searched the apps on my phone for one that helps people find last-minute hotels. I found one called HotelTonight and searched for Michigan hotel rooms. I was extremely impressed with the number of different choices that were available. As I gave it a deeper look, I was also impressed with the quality of the choices provided, as these were not hotels that you'd rather avoid by any means. Despite the high-end nature of these Michigan hotels, the rates were extremely reasonable, especially when you consider that many of the reservations are made for later that day or the next day. I was convinced that HotelTonight would make a good travel companion to Michigan. Satisfied with that aspect of my trip, I started researching fun facts about the state, as I knew that would give me some ideas about where I should visit while I was there.

The Legend of the Wolverine

The first place I visited in Michigan was Ann Arbor, which is a gorgeous college town that is home to the University of Michigan, a school that is famous in its own right. I spent a lot of time there walking around campus and wondering why the school's mascot is the wolverine. I understood that the wolverine is a fierce and scrappy animal, but in reading further I realized that in 2004, the first live wolverine was found in Michigan in over 200 years. That wolverine was stuffed and is now on display, but there are no wild wolverines in the state.

Michigan Is the Home of Magic

A lot of people may not have heard of a place called Colon, Michigan. The name itself is memorable, but this is a small community that's memorable for other reasons. Despite the fact that only about 1,000 people live here, it's known as the Magic Capital of the World. Harry Blackstone is laid to rest here and the city is home to several different companies that produce magic supplies. I walked around and noticed all of the different homages to magic, and it was quite an experience to see all of this unexpectedly.

Michigan and Cherries

There are a lot of different crops that grow in Michigan, as the entire Midwest has historically been a fertile ground for crops. One of the crops that's famous in Michigan is the cherry. Traverse City in particular is known for its tart cherries, which are commonly used in pies. There is a cherry festival here every year, and if you want to you can head to several different places to pick your own. I chose to simply sample them while I was there visiting, and they were delicious.

Detroit and Phone Numbers

Detroit is a city that's obviously known for its relationship with the automobile and the auto industry. There's a good reason for that, as at one time this was one of the most booming cities in the world. So much so, in fact, that Detroit was the first city in the United States to have phone numbers. This began in the latter stages of the 19th Century because there were too many people to simply ask the operator to connect to someone by name. That's just one of the many fascinating facts I learned while visiting the Motor City.

HotelTonight – Michigan Hotels Are Available

As I headed towards the airport in Detroit to catch my flight home, I realized that I had experienced something truly wonderful in Michigan. I had gotten to know a new place and I had learned quite a bit about what it's like to live here. There were also places I did not have a chance to explore, but I was fine with that as I wanted to come back here someday anyway. When I do, I'm going to find Michigan hotels quickly with the help of my new travel companion, HotelTonight.
