HotelTonight – Olde Town Arvada Denver Hotels Near You
If you have ever spent any time in Denver, chances are you've come to realize that you should really spend quite a bit of time there if you want to get to know it well. I have been there many times over the years because my job takes me there among other places and always wanted to get to know it a little bit better. Before my last trip, I stumbled upon an idea: instead of flying home the day I was supposed to, which was immediately after my last meeting, I'd push my return flight out by 24 hours. On top of that I decided that instead of trying to see the whole city, I'd pick out one neighborhood and spend my 24 hours delving deeply into that part of town. For my neighborhood to explore, I chose Olde Town Arvada. I had heard about it on previous trips, but I had never had the opportunity to see it. A Mix of Old and New
As the name of the neighborhood suggests, there is a lot of history in this neighborhood as it was one of the first in Denver to be settled on a permanent basis. There are also a lot of different old-style buildings here that are at least 100 years old, and that includes both commercial and residential structures. However, this is not your typical old town like you see in other places--there is also a lot of modernization happening here, and you'll see new businesses and looks mixed in perfectly with the history.
The Shopping
I'm not a huge shopper, mostly because where I live the only choices you have are big chain stores. I shop when I need to shop. However, I found myself shopping and actually enjoying it in Olde Town Arvada. That's because the majority of stores here are locally owned, small and completely unique. I found a pair of cowboy boots that I cannot wait to wear in front of my friends, as I'm sure no one but me has them. I also found a lot of gifts for the people in my life that they have really enjoyed since I gave them to them.
The Restaurants
You could basically fill a world map with all of the different restaurants that you'll find in Olde Town Arvada. For whatever reason, I found myself in the mood for Mexican food, and I was in luck. Some local folks told me that there was a great place just up the road, so I gave it a shot. It was delicious. The carne asada was sublime, and the tortillas were obviously made fresh right there and on that day. It was a great meal.
