HotelTonight – Little Saigon San Jose Hotels in Minutes
In many ways, San Jose, California is a microcosm of America. So many people from so many different parts of the world have converged here, bringing pieces of their culture with them, that it forms a wonderful melting pot on a grand scale. The fact that everyone coexists so seamlessly is a credit to the folks who live there and to the overall vibe of the place. I wanted to explore more of this city, as I had only ever been here for professional reasons. Recently, I was sent to San Jose for a conference, and I scheduled my return flight for 24 hours after it was over. I wanted to explore the Little Saigon neighborhood, as I had heard a lot of great things about it during my previous visits. As far as lodging was concerned, I wasn't worried, as I always travel with my HotelTonight app, which helps people find accommodations in real-time based on their locations. I would find a Little Saigon San Jose hotel easily when I wanted to get some sleep.
I instantly realized upon pulling into Little Saigon that this neighborhood was aptly named. I found out that there are approximately 180,000 residents here, and the vast majority of them trace their roots to Vietnam. I even learned that more Vietnamese people live here than in any other place in the world outside of Vietnam. It was extremely interesting to see this, and I stopped at a cafe to have a coffee in hopes of striking up a conversation. I did, and I found out that this is a place where Vietnamese traditions are prevalent, but that everyone enjoys the injection of American culture as well.
I have to be honest in that I don't think I had ever been to a neighborhood that was so decidedly tied to Vietnam in the United States. I wanted to learn more, so I walked into the Viet Museum in History Park. It was fascinating. Its exhibits painted a very detailed and riveting picture of what it was like to leave Vietnam and to come and live in the United States. Some of the exhibits really hit home in terms of the struggles these folks faced and overcame.
Of course, the thing that Little Saigon is known for more than anything else is its cuisine. As one would expect, there were Vietnamese restaurants all over this community. These weren't your basic Americanized restaurants either--these were the real deal. I stopped into one for dinner and had a bowl of delicious broth with tripe. It was wonderful, as it was somehow prepared in such a way that you could taste every ingredient. I enjoyed it immensely.
