Filled with antique shops, old-fashioned soda shops and even hip restaurants, the Historic Downtown is the place to stay when you visit Cedar City – at least that's what locals told me. Downtown Cedar City takes great pride in its rich history, and this is evident no matter where you look. There are 172 buildings in Cedar City, and 104 of these buildings are considered historic. Some of the most historic sites in the downtown area include the Old Post Office, the Union Pacific Railroad Depot and the Rock Church. Locals will tell you that the gem of this historic district is the Rock Church, a colorful, ornate building that was constructed in the 1930s. The building was specially crafted from local materials and donated labor, which is why locals consider it such an important landmark for their town.

Main Street Park

The roots of Main Street Park date from 1886, so the area is a central part of the daily life and culture of Cedar City locals. Originally named Liberty Park, Main Street Park boasts beautiful, lush lawns and impressive trees that are over 100 years old. This park is where locals gather to exercise, play sports, enjoy picnics and simply enjoy the charm of their town. I found myself in Main Street Park several times during the weekend, as it was close to my hotel and provided a picturesque area to walk and enjoy the lovely weather.
