Where to stay in Cedar City

HotelTonight – Cedar City Utah Hotel Tonight

Perched one mile and 500 feet above sea level, Cedar City is one of the most beautiful mountain towns in Utah, and it's considered a haven for outdoor lovers year round. Every once in awhile, I need to take a break from the traffic and the crowds of the city, so I head to destinations where I can enjoy the outdoors and bask in the laidback atmosphere of a small town. Recently, I started going a bit stir crazy in the city, so I decided to book a last-minute trip to Cedar City, Utah. I had never been to Cedar City before, but I had heard many great things about this idyllic town, so I checked HotelTonight's website to book a last-minute Cedar City hotel. Within minutes on the HotelTonight website, I had found a great hotel in the heart of Cedar City, which proved to be the perfect home base for my Utah adventures.

National Parks

Cedar City prides itself on being the "gateway to Utah's National Parks," which is why this town is the perfect jumping off point for those looking to explore some of the best national parks in the country. Cedar City is ideally located for those planning trips to national parks like Zion, Bryce Canyon and Cedar Breaks. Utah offers stunning natural landscapes and settings that will remind you of the beauty of nature, which is why I decided to extend my last-minute weekend trip into a last-minute week-long trip. I simply couldn't see and do everything I wanted to in Utah in just one weekend, so I extended my stay so I could really explore this gorgeous area of Utah.

Skiing

Unfortunately, I did not visit Cedar City during ski season, but I'm already planning my return trip for the winter months. This town is a great spot for ski lovers, as some of Utah's best ski resorts are a quick drive away. Brian Head Resort is considered a premier ski resort, and skiers and snowboarders travel from all over the Southwest to enjoy Brian Head's fresh snow, diverse trails and stunning views every winter.

The University

Cedar City definitely feels like a small, tight-knit community, but make no mistake, this is not a sleepy little town. Thanks to its student population, there's plenty of energy and excitement to be found in Cedar City. This town is home to Southern Utah University, a public university with a pretty campus and a student population of just over 8,000. During my stay in Cedar City, I took a quick tour of the campus and explored the surrounding neighborhoods, where you'll be taken by the infectious energy of the student population.

Festivals

Many locals call Cedar City, "Festival City, USA" given the number of festivals that are held in the town every year. Cedar City's best-known festival is the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors every summer. I was lucky enough to find myself in Cedar City at the tail-end of the festival, and I was so glad I had the chance to experience such a unique event. Other festivals in Cedar City include the Neil Simon Festival, rodeos, sports competitions and an annual Christmas parade. Since there always seems to be some type of major event happening in Cedar City, there's never a bad time to visit this beautiful town in Utah.

Main Street

After a long day of enjoying Utah's beautiful outdoors, there's no better place to relax and enjoy the lively atmosphere of Cedar City than the historic Main Street. Cedar City's Main Street is so idyllic it looks like it belongs in a movie or a painting, and it's comprised of historic red brick buildings that are home to great shops and restaurants. Several of the buildings in this historic district are more than a century old, and there's a certain old world charm to the entire neighborhood. Plus, there is a terrific selection of dining options. Whether you're in the mood for a casual pizza joint or a more upscale restaurant, you'll definitely be able to find whatever you are craving near the historic Main Street.
