HotelTonight – Book Your Last-Minute Hotel in Waco Texas

Waco has experienced a boom in tourism in recent years thanks to the popular HGTV show, "Fixer Upper," but I wanted to get to know the authentic heart and soul of Waco, not just what is portrayed on TV. So during my recent trip to Waco, I really tried to experience this lovely Texas town like a local. I asked locals for recommendations on how to best explore their city, and I made sure to get off-the-beaten tourist path. By the end of my stay, I really felt like I had gotten a great sense of the lifestyle and culture of Waco, and I grew to really love the town. As I always do when I travel, I used the HotelTonight app to book my hotel in Waco, so I was able to find a great, centrally located hotel at a moment's notice.

Downtown Cultural District

The beating heart of Waco is without a doubt its downtown Cultural District. This is where I really felt the unique character of Waco, and there's an interesting creative and cultural vibe here that you can't find in other parts of the town. All over the Cultural District, you'll find great restaurants, public art, bars and specialty shops, and I had a blast just wandering through the beautiful streets of this downtown area.

The Outdoors

Waco calls itself the "Heart of Texas," and this central town is a great place to enjoy some of Texas' best outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking, fishing and hunting. Nearby parks and nature areas include Bear Mountain, the Bosque River, Brazos Park East and the Carleen Bright Arboretum. During my stay in Waco, I tried to get outdoors and enjoy the surrounding nature as much as possible, so I went kayaking, hiking and even fishing. By doing this, I felt that I got a great sense of what life is like for Waco locals.

Museums

Waco may be a small city in Texas, but it has quite an impressive selection of museums and art centers. Whether you love sports or fine art, there's a museum in Waco that you're sure to love. Waco is home to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, the Mayborn Museum Complex, the Red Men Museum and Library and even the Dr. Pepper Museum. Many of these museums would even interest children, which is why I think that Waco is a great destination for families.
