HotelTonight – Book Your Helena Hotel

Situated between Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park is Helena, the capital city of Montana. Given that it's so close to some of the most beautiful national parks in the country, it should come as no surprise that Helena is also a beautiful city. This is a great place to visit if you're craving fresh, unpolluted air and stunning natural scenery, because there's just no end to the gorgeous natural sites in and around Helena – I discovered this as soon as I arrived in Helena on a business trip. I was only supposed to spend one day in Helena originally, but I was so taken with the city's beauty that I couldn't help but extend my stay. To book a last-minute hotel in Helena, I pulled up the HotelTonight website on my computer. In just a few quick scrolls and clicks, I had booked a lovely hotel in the center of Helena, which proved to be the perfect home base for my Montana adventures.

The State Capitol

Since Helena is the capital city of Montana, it would be a shame to visit the city without at least walking past the stunning capitol building. This beautiful old building was built in a Greek neoclassical architectural style, and it is certainly one of the most breathtaking buildings in Helena. It's located on East 6th Avenue, so you can't miss it when you're walking around central Helena.

Mount Helena

When you come to Montana, you should definitely get out of the city and explore the great outdoors. Mount Helena City Park is an easy drive out of the city, and it's full of stunning views and scenery. At over 5,000 feet above sea level, you'll be blown away by the stunning views at Mount Helena. There are a number of trails that lead to gorgeous vistas, and you can find everything from easy trails to more difficult trails, but all will lead you past colorful prairies and staggering rock formations.

Historic District

The Helena Historic District has roots that trace back to the days when miners flooded into the city to look for gold. This small gold rush helped build Helena into the city it is today, which is why the historic district is a beloved part of the city. While you can take an informational tour of the district, you can also just enjoy the beautiful old architecture of the neighborhood by yourself. While in the Historic District, you'll pass historic sites like Pioneer's Cabin, Reeder's Alley, the California Wine House and the Yee Wau Cabin.

Museums

I'll admit it, I was a bit surprised to discover how many great museums Helena has to offer. This city has its own distinct history and culture, and you can really get a feel for it when you visit its museums. Some of the museums worth visiting in Helena include the Montana Historical Society Museum, the Holter Museum of Art, and the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. If you want a gain a better understanding of what life was and still is like in Helena, you should try to check out at least one of these museums during your visit.

National Forest

For more beautiful natural sights, head to the Helena National Forest. Covering almost one million acres, the Helena Forest features diverse terrain, from rugged limestone canyons to grassy plains. Helena locals take advantage of the Helena National Forest by using its trails for hiking, biking and even horseback riding. If you visit Helena during the winter months, you can still enjoy the beauty of this National Forest, because it transforms into a haven for winter sports lovers. So if you want to snowboard or snowshoe in the beautiful Montana countryside, you'll want to drive out to the Helena National Forest during your stay in Helena.

HotelTonight – Last-Minute Hotels in Helena Montana

Helena is one of the prettiest towns I've visited in the U.S., and I would recommend it as a destination for anybody seeking a bit of peace and outdoor beauty. It's not often that you get to visit a town as picturesque and as beautiful as Helena, so I was grateful that I had the opportunity to explore the city, even if it was only for a weekend. I wouldn't have had such a fun, relaxing trip to Montana if it weren't for HotelTonight, though, because HotelTonight always makes it easy for me to find great deals on last-minute hotels.
