HotelTonight – Prescott, AZ Hotels Are Available

I drive through the southwestern portion of the United States quite a bit for work, and, to me, one of the most beautiful parts of, not just the country, but the world, is Arizona. There is something about the desert that hits me in a soft place, and when I'm on one of the interstates there I tend to lose myself in thought, wondering what could live there, how long things have lived there and what the desert will look like in a million years. I love the desert, and its unique form of beauty, and I love these drives because they give me a chance to re-calibrate myself between meetings. What I don't like, though, is that I rarely have time to stop and explore any of the communities I see. Recently, I got into my car early one morning for a drive through Arizona, only to find out minutes later that my entire day of meetings had been canceled. I decided to head off the beaten path a bit and explore Prescott. I wasn't worried about finding a place to stay, as I always travel with HotelTonight. I'd book a Prescott hotel room, as soon as I needed one.

The History

Prescott is a small city, but that doesn't mean that it lacks for history. In fact, the people here seem to have taken great care to preserve that history so that the rest of us can have an idea of what life was like in this area, even centuries ago. There are several different museums in town, which is unique for such a small community. I toured two of them. One was dedicated to the pioneer era, and the other focused on Native American life in this part of the world. Both were fascinating.

The Lake

I have to admit that when I drive through Arizona, the last thing I think about running into, much less seeing, is any sort of lake. A lake is one of the many beautiful things about Prescott, as just outside of the main part of town, is Watson Lake. It's a beautiful, rocky body of water that is home to a lot of different recreational activities. I chose to hike that day, as the weather was beautiful, and I wanted to take photos. I think I took over 100 pictures of landscapes that I had never seen before.

The Dining

Over the course of the day, I had built up a big-time hunger. I wanted a beer as well, and a couple at the lake told me about a brewpub that had earned quite a following. I decided to have dinner there and glad I did. I took a seat on the outdoor patio and ordered some pulled pork tacos. They were sublime. It was as if they combined the spices and flavoring of the southwest with the meat and texture of classic barbecue, all on delicious tortillas.
