HotelTonight – Book Your Hotel in Gillette Wyoming

There are many reasons to stop in Gillette, Wyoming, a lovely city right in between two of the country's most celebrated sites: Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore. Hence, Gillette seems to be a popular stopping point on road trips, and that's exactly what led me to this pretty city in Wyoming. I wasn't originally planning on spending the night in Gillette, but when I stopped in the town for lunch, I realized that there was so much more to do and see here than I had originally anticipated. From the town's welcoming atmosphere to its picturesque streets, Gillette intrigued me right away. So without hesitating, I pulled up the HotelTonight app on my phone and searched for hotels in Gillette, Wyoming. Minutes later, I had booked a great hotel in the heart of the city, and I was ready to really get to know the town of Gillette.

The Mountains

Gillette is situated in the Powder River Basin, which sits in the middle of two breathtaking mountain ranges, the Black Hills and the Big Horns. Due to its location, Gillette is a short drive away from any type of outdoors adventure you could imagine. From fly-fishing and hunting to hiking and skiing, there's so much to do in this area of Wyoming that you'll never be bored. I was in Gillette during the summer months, so I took advantage of the beautiful weather to go hiking, fishing and even white water rafting.

The Mines

The Powder River Basin happens to be home to the richest coalfields in the country, which is why Gillette has adopted the nickname, "Energy Capital of the Nation." Because of its coal mining industries and its rich history as a mining town, I didn't want to visit Gillette without learning more about life in the mines. So I went to the Eagle Butte Coal Mine to take a tour, and I ended up learning so much about the industry that the town of Gillette is built on.

Ranches

Gillette, Wyoming is in ranch country, and since I don't pass by many ranches back on the East Coast, I decided to visit one of the nearby ranches myself. There are many ranches in this area of Wyoming, where you can see buffalo, horses and sprawling plains. After all, I figured that while I was in the Cowboy State, I might as well see some modern cowboys at work.

If I find myself in Wyoming sometime in the future (which I hope I do, since this is the most beautiful state I've ever visited), I'll be sure to book my another Wyoming hotel through HotelTonight, which always makes it easy for me to find great last-minute deals on hotels.
