HotelTonight – La Crosse Hotels
If you spend time in Wisconsin, you learn that this is a relatively flat place where you'll see some rolling hills and a lot of trees and farming fields. The entire state is basically the same in this regard. It's beautiful and consistent. I've been traveling to Wisconsin for a long time, and I've always looked forward to the bucolic scenery. The last time I was there, I had to travel through the southwestern part of the state, and I immediately noticed a big difference. There were big rock formations and the landscape was anything but flat. It was totally different but equally as beautiful. I was a bit confused, though, as to how this happened. Just then, I got a phone call that said that my meetings for the rest of that day had been canceled. I decided to just stop there and spend the day in this city called La Crosse. I was looking forward to finding out more about this interesting part of the world. I wasn't worried about lodging for that night, as I travel with HotelTonight. My favorite app would find me a La Crosse hotel room as soon as I needed one.
The History
I stopped at a coffee shop downtown, and I was immediately greeted by a feeling of warmth in this Rockwellian little community. As I enjoyed my coffee, I started talking to a lady who was apparently a regular. She told me that the reason the La Crosse area was so hilly and rocky was because the glacier that spread across Wisconsin eons ago never really hit that area. Therefore, the landscape was never flattened like it was everywhere else. With that mystery solved, she also gave me some good insight into what I should do that day.
The Outdoors
The city itself, home to around 50,000 residents, is surrounded by gorgeous bluffs that almost form a natural shelter around the community. As it turns out, these bluffs are not just for looking at, as there are a lot of different trails up there. I put on my hiking shoes and made my way up into them. I was glad I did, as the hiking itself was incredible. There were huge trees everywhere and the views of the valley below were stunning. I took a lot of photos that I'm not sure you'd be able to replicate anywhere else.
The Cuisine
After that much exercise, I wanted some hearty comfort food. I was told about an old tavern that had been serving great hamburgers for decades, so I gave that a shot. I walked in and was immediately taken aback by the ambience – it was as if I had traveled back in time, but in a good way. I ordered a beer and a cheeseburger, and they made it where I could see what was happening. It was charbroiled and delicious. The bun was a bit crunchy, the meat juicy and the cheese everywhere.

I was full, happy and… still didn't have lodging for the night. That was not a concern, though, as I simply opened my HotelTonight app as I waited for my bill to be processed at dinner. Before the bartender returned with my receipt, I had booked a La Crosse hotel room. I was ready to rest, happy that I had discovered another wonderful place.
