Elkview is named for the nearby river, Elk River, which is the longest river in West Virginia. Elk River flows into the Kanawha River, and it truly is a beautiful river. Locals take full advantage of the river, where they go fishing and walk along its picturesque banks. I decided to do as the locals do and rented some fishing equipment in town so that I could enjoy the Elk River just like I would if I lived in Elkview.
Charleston
The state capital of West Virginia is only a short drive away from Elkview. If you want to pop into Charleston for a nice dinner or some live entertainment, it's easy, since Charleston and Elkview are only 15 miles apart. After spending some time basking in the feel-good, small town vibes of Elkview, I headed to Charleston to enjoy a delicious dinner downtown. That's why Elkview is the perfect small town – it's quaint and quiet, but you can still access a city in less than 20 minutes.
