This city is also a great destination on its own, thanks to its beautiful setting, pretty town and friendly locals. I recently had the opportunity to visit Yakima for the first time, and I knew I couldn't pass it up. After all, I had been to Washington cities like Seattle and Spokane, but I had yet to visit a city in the center of the state. So I packed a bag and headed toward the airport, but at the last-minute I realized I still needed to book a hotel in Yakima. Historic downtown Yakima is the beating heart of this city. There's plenty of charm and character in the downtown streets, and this is where locals come for great shopping and trendy restaurants. I also noticed that there always seems to be something interesting happening in downtown, from community markets to symphony orchestra performances, so there's certainly no shortage of entertainment in downtown Yakima. Since I was staying in downtown Yakima, all the best entertainment, food and shopping was just a short walk away from my hotel.
Wine Country
Yakima is located in Washington's beautiful wine country, so it's a popular destination for wine lovers. I was excited to try and learn about Washington wines, so I decided to spend a day hopping from one winery to the next. Not only is the scenery around Yakima absolutely stunning, but the wines were also delicious. By the end of the day, I had found a new favorite wine region.
Entertainment
To be honest, I didn't have high expectations for the entertainment scene in Yakima. After all, it's not a major city like Seattle. But I was actually quite surprised by all there is to do and see in Yakima. This city has many sports teams, a speedway, theaters and even festivals. From folk music festivals to the Washington State Fair, there's actually a lot of exciting entertainment events held regularly in Yakima. I was never bored once during my stay, which is why I'm already hoping that I have another chance to return to Yakima in the future.
