HotelTonight – Browse Great Hotels in Washougal Washington

As I drove out of Oregon and crossed the Columbia River, I found myself in a small, lovely town named Washougal. I immediately parked my car near the town's Main Street and began exploring, because the small town of Washougal was one of the prettiest, most idyllic communities I had come across on my road trip. Without thinking twice, I pulled up my HotelTonight app and booked a great last-minute hotel in Washougal. I wanted to spend more time in this small, charming town. Since I had a few days to spare before I needed to be in Seattle, I decided to spend some of that time exploring Washougal – and I'm sure glad I did. This lovely little town in Washington now holds a special place in my heart, and it was certainly one of my favorite parts of my entire road trip.

Downtown

Downtown Washougal offers a great mix of old world charm and modern style. There's plenty of rich history in Washougal (Lewis and Clark stopped here, after all), but there's also a hip, modern energy to the downtown area that locals love. There are a number of cool restaurants, fitness studios and shops, so I could instantly tell that downtown Washougal is where all the action takes place in town. I was also very happy that I booked a hotel near downtown, because it made it easy for me to walk to all of the restaurants, shops and bars in the area.

Outdoor Recreation

There's a reason why Washougal residents consider themselves "outdoors people" – there's just so much to do outdoors in this area. There are plenty of great spots for water sports, which shouldn't be a huge surprise, given Washougal's location on the Columbia River. There's boating, kayaking, hiking, biking and golfing nearby Washougal, and the winter months provide fantastic skiing for Washougal residents. If you love the great outdoors, you'll fit right in with Washougal locals.

Wildlife

The city of Washougal takes care of the local wildlife. There are two major wildlife preserves in the area: the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge and the Franz Lake National Wildlife Refuge. These preserves allow visitors to hike through scenic trails, where there are ponds, marshes, fields, rivers, woodlands and tundra. There are so many different types of habitat in these preserves that you're sure to see a great variety of wildlife. During my visits, I spotted swans, waterfowl and even deer.

HotelTonight – Washougal Washington Hotels

Washougal, Washington was a total surprise for me. I didn't expect to stop here, and I certainly didn't expect to love it as much as I did. But Washougal won me over almost instantly, and I'm certainly glad I extended my stay here. I love finding off-the-beaten path towns that I can really get to know when I travel, which is why I had such a great time exploring Washougal. Of course, my last-minute Washougal getaway wouldn't have been possible without HotelTonight, which I always rely on to book last-minute hotels whenever and wherever I travel.
