Sunnyside is located in Yakima County, which is best known as Washington's wine country. With over 300 days of sunshine per year, Sunnyside is a great place to visit no matter the time of year, but I decided to visit during the fall harvest season. There are over 120 wineries in Yakima Valley, so it's a haven for wine lovers. But if wine isn't really your thing, you might be happy to know that Yakima Valley is also a hotspot for hop growing, which means there are some great craft breweries in the region.
Outdoor Adventures
Sunnyside's beautiful weather and stunning natural surroundings provide plenty of opportunities to enjoy adventures outdoors. Nearby Sunnyside, you can find all types of outdoors recreation, such as biking, hiking, fishing, rafting and kayaking. Since there are over 109 lakes and about 170 miles of rivers in Yakima Valley, this area is a perfect spot for water sports. Even though it was a bit chilly when I visited, I still wanted to enjoy the beauty of Sunnyside's natural surroundings, so I headed to the lake to go fishing.
Downtown
The charming downtown district of Sunnyside really gives you a feel for this small yet tight-knit community. Each block of downtown is home to a handful of old, well maintained buildings, which are now filled with small businesses. In downtown Sunnyside, you'll find great local restaurants and shops, as well as museums and historic sites. If you need suggestions on where to eat while in Sunnyside, just ask a local. I found that the Sunnyside locals gave fantastic recommendations about how to enjoy their city.
