HotelTonight – Hotel in Burlington Washington Today

Located halfway between Seattle and Vancouver is the small town of Burlington, Washington. I recently stumbled upon this town in Skagit County and instantly fell in love with its small town atmosphere and surrounding beauty. Since I wanted to spend some time exploring small towns in the Pacific Northwest before crossing into Canada on my road trip, I decided to book a last-minute hotel in Burlington so that I could spend a bit more time exploring this beautiful part of the country. To find a Burlington hotel at the very last minute, I simply pulled up the HotelTonight app on my phone. Minutes later, I had booked a great hotel in the heart of Burlington and was ready to get to know the heart and soul of this charming little town.

Old Downtown

The first thing about Burlington that grabbed my attention was the city's old downtown, whose roots trace back to the 1880s, when the city first started developing as a logging camp. The main drag in this historic downtown is Fairhaven Avenue, which acts as a gathering place for the community during special events, like the annual Berry Dairy Days that attracts visitors from all over the state. Fairhaven Avenue boasts a number of great shops and restaurants, but my favorite thing about it was its old-fashioned buildings and quaint small town vibes.

Shopping

Burlington is actually quite a popular area for shopping, and people from other nearby cities travel here to shop at the Cascade Mall. This major shopping mall is the biggest in Skagit Valley, and it's an enclosed commercial center that features a variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment options. This mall is a hub of energy and activity for Burlington residents, so I made sure to stop by and check it out while I was in town.

The Great Outdoors

Without a doubt, my favorite part about driving through the Pacific Northwest is seeing its staggering natural beauty. Skagit County, in particular, has so many natural sights to admire and explore, so I knew I had to get outdoors while visiting Burlington. All within an easy drive from the heart of town, you'll find great hiking, fishing and biking. Since the expansive North Cascades National Park is in Burlington's backyard, there is no shortage of mountain recreational activities to enjoy. I ended up spending an entire day hiking and fishing in the Cascades, and it was one of my favorite moments from my entire road trip.

I only spent one day exploring Burlington, but I can now say that it's one of my favorite towns in Washington. This idyllic little town is full of character and charm, but it's the surrounding natural scenery that really won me over. There's just so much to do around Burlington that you can never be bored. I am so glad I chose to book a last-minute Burlington hotel through HotelTonight, because otherwise I would have missed out on some of my favorite memories from my time in the Pacific Northwest.
