HotelTonight – McAllen Texas Hotels in Minutes

McAllen is one of the most populous cities in South Texas, and it's located on the Rio Grande right across from Mexico. Given its proximity to Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico, McAllen is a popular stopping point road trips. However, I think that McAllen deserves to be considered a destination in its own right. This small city, nicknamed the "City of Palms," has its own unique character and culture that visitors would love – I certainly did. I like to think I've traveled a lot throughout the US, but I've never been to a city quite like McAllen, which is why I was so glad I stayed in this border city for a couple of nights. After booking my McAllen hotel on my HotelTonight app, I set out into the city to explore as much as I could during my short stay.

Entertainment District

McAllen locals know a thing or two about great entertainment, and you can see this just by walking through the 17th Street Entertainment District. This long, lively stretch is where locals go for great nightlife, sports bars, fine dining and, of course, entertainment. Artists come to McAllen to perform at venues like the Cine El Rey and the McAllen Convention Center, so there's always some type of great live entertainment event to enjoy while in McAllen.

Arts District

Just like McAllen loves its live entertainment, this city also loves its arts scene. The vibrant Arts District is located on Main Street, right in the heart of the city. Here, you'll find the massive Art Village, which attracts artists from all over the world, as well as the historic Archer Park. After just an hour of exploring the Arts District and popping into one gallery after another, I felt that I had gotten a great sense of the city's heart and soul, and it's because I really understood just how important art is to McAllen's identity.

Downtown

Downtown McAllen is the commercial hub of McAllen. There are over 250 retail businesses located downtown, as well as consulates, train stations and many local offices. This Central Business District attracts visitors from not only all over Texas, but also from all over the world. And one thing you will notice immediately when you explore downtown McAllen is the fusion of two cultures: American and Mexican. This cultural blend creates a unique, lively atmosphere that is absolutely magnetic.
