HotelTonight – Book Your North Charleston Hotel in Minutes
I don't fall in love with new cities every time I travel, but I fell in love with Charleston, South Carolina almost instantly. The beauty and Southern charm of the city won me over right away, so I extended my stay from a weekend to a full week. After a few days exploring the heart of Charleston, I decided to venture a bit north of the town to North Charleston, which is a beautiful, albeit more low-key South Carolina town. I gravitated toward North Charleston for its welcoming atmosphere, and I fell right at home the moment I arrived. Because I was able to book a great last-minute North Charleston hotel through HotelTonight, I didn't have to stress about finding quality accommodations at a moment's notice.
It didn't take me long to discover why Riverfront Park is a favorite among North Charleston locals. Riverfront Park is set along the banks of the picturesque Cooper River, and this peaceful, green park regularly holds major community events, like concerts and festivals. It's also home to the Greater Charleston Naval Base Memorial, so it's certainly a point of pride in the town. I grabbed some food for a picnic and enjoyed an entire afternoon lounging among locals at this scenic park.
Since I was so close to the Atlantic Ocean, I knew I wanted to spend a day at the beach while in North Charleston. Thanks to the advice of some locals, I found one of the most picturesque beaches on the East Coast, Edisto Beach, located on Edisto Island. This stunning, non-commercialized beach is one of the finest, most romantic beaches I've ever been to, and I couldn't have been happier to spend an entire day relaxing by the water. The island itself is also home to several historic homes and plantations, so it's a great place to explore if you're interested in the history and culture of the South.
Arts and Culture
I was surprised by how invested North Charleston locals are in their arts and culture. There are exhibits and public art all over the town, and galleries such as the North Charleston City Gallery and the City of North Charleston Public Art Collection. Locals also enjoy regular concerts and performing arts exhibits at venues like the North Charleston Coliseum and even the weekly farmers market. Coming from a big city myself, I didn't expect North Charleston to have much to offer in terms of arts and entertainment, but I sure was wrong.
