HotelTonight – Tigard, Oregon Hotels
Oregon is a state that has seen a lot of growth and change over the past generation or so. It's become home to people from all over the world, and a majority of them have called somewhere in or near Portland home. I've been traveling to Portland for business for years, and I've always enjoyed my time there. As the metropolitan area has grown, so has my interest in seeing what's happening in the communities that surround downtown. One city I hadn't seen for quite some time until recently was Tigard. I was there in the early 1990's, but ever since then I've always been busy somewhere else when I was in town. I wanted to change all of that, so on my last trip there I decided to try to carve out 24 hours for myself. I was going to reestablish my familiarity with Tigard, and I was going to take an entire day to do so. I wasn't worried about finding a place to stay. I travel with the HotelTonight app. I'd find a Tigard hotel room as soon as I was ready to call it a night and get some sleep.
The Community
Tigard has grown to a city of nearly 50,000 people, and it's been trending upward for years now. I stopped at a coffee shop to start my day, and I got to talking with a few other patrons, all of whom were local. It seems that the people moving to Tigard are generally either people who moved away from the middle of Portland for a more family-oriented life and people moving from California who were looking for a more affordable place to live. As such, Tigard has become a community of families, which creates a nice, relaxing atmosphere.
The Hiking
One thing that hasn't changed is the stunning view of Mount Hood, and other mountains in the area, from just about anywhere in town when the weather is clear. I found a hiking path that began right near the middle of town and jumped onto it excitedly. Once again, the view of Mount Hood was majestic as were the surrounding foothills and general greenery. I also got to see lovely sights that included pristine views of the river. I took a lot of photos while hiking, and I spoke to quite a few more people while out there.
The Dining
Another thing that has come to Tigard in a big way in recent years along with families is gastropubs. This part of the world was one of the birthing grounds for craft breweries, and these days you can find those craft brews served with some great pub food. I found a place near where I used to go regularly, and I ordered a peanut butter burger along with a nice local pilsner. The peanut butter topping in the hamburger was delicious, especially when couple with bacon. The beer was also outstanding.
