HotelTonight – Lake Oswego Hotels Are Available

I'm not often a fan of suburbs. Having traveled all over the United States for work, I've discovered that there are always exceptions. In the case of Lake Oswego, it is certainly an exception. Prior to discovering what makes Lake Oswego unique, I was thinking of ways to get into Portland after having arrived to town for work, but it just wasn't possible. Instead, I found out that one of my days of meetings was canceled, so I ended up with time to explore Lake Oswego. As usual, I waited until I arrived in town to book my Lake Oswego hotel using my HotelTonight app. I picked a great hotel in Lake Oswego nearby the office and was all set for my time in the suburbs.

The Art

One thing I've rarely seen in suburbs of bigger cities is a lot of art, but Lake Oswego is filled with it. It seems that there are a lot of sculptors in the area, or the city planners like sculpture, because I saw dozens of them around town. I found out later that they actually have walking tours for people to see what are approximately 60 different sculptures within walking distance of each other. In addition to the sculptures, you could also see a direct artistic influence on other aspects of the community, including the decorative light posts.

The Shopping

My second surprise when it came to Lake Oswego was the quality of the shopping there. I never shop in suburbs because I've usually only see stores that I can find anywhere else, but Lake Oswego had some unique shopping options that created a fun afternoon for me. I walked through consignment shops, boutiques and the like all afternoon. I even spent a significant amount of time talking to store owners and workers at a few of my favorite shops. It gave me an opportunity to connect with locals and learn more about the community. Everyone was extremely friendly, I bought a few things for myself, and I got some good recommendations on where I was going out to eat for dinner. I love taking advantage of work trips to explore new dining options alone.

The Dining

A lady in one of the shops told me that I had to try the local steakhouse. I was definitely up for red meat, having spent a month strictly exploring vegan restaurants. It had the look of an upscale place, but there was a comfortable vibe to it that gave it a homey feel. The steak itself was more than fantastic, it was one of the best steaks I've had in years. It was smothered in tiny mushrooms, and the garlic mashed potatoes that came with it made the whole thing complete. It was a tremendous meal at a reasonable price.

HotelTonight – Lake Oswego Hotels

As I mentioned, I don't usually book my hotels in advance and finding my Lake Oswego hotel was the same. I wasn't concerned, though, as I travel with HotelTonight which helped me locate a more luxe hotel in Lake Oswego right by my work destination. It also was located close to the restaurant, so it was a short walk before I was in bed for the night.
