HotelTonight – Vadnais Heights Hotels Are Available
Whenever I travel to Minneapolis/St. Paul for work, which is often, I try to take some time to get away from all of the customary places one goes when there on business. It's not that I don't enjoy those places, as they are all very nice and extremely accommodating in my experience, but I've always enjoyed getting to know a city in which I don't live on a deeper level than what travelers see. On most trips, I'm able to carve perhaps a few hours out for myself, which is sometimes not enough time to get a feel for a particular community. On my last trip to the Twin Cities, an entire set of circumstances led to me suddenly having an entire 24-hour period to spend as I pleased. I wanted to pick a part of Minneapolis that I hadn't seen, that wasn't necessarily a travel destination and that would provide me with a glimpse of what life is like there. I chose Vadnais Heights. The Parks
As soon as I pulled into this community, I realized that I had found a place that was truly a home for the locals. This was a community in every sense of the word, and one of the first things I noticed was that there were a lot of parks around. That was a good thing, as it was a beautiful day that day and I wanted to enjoy some fresh air. I chose a park that was enormous and that had a nice walking path along the water. The tree canopy was thick and lush, and people were out playing with their children. It was a lovely scene.
The Shopping
I realize that while I was in Vadnais Heights that I was relatively close to the Mall of America, but that's not the only shopping available in this part of the world. There were quite a few chain stores around, but I also saw a lot of different small and locally owned shops selling everything from vintage clothing to artwork to art supplies to just about anything else one could imagine. I walked through quite a few of them throughout the afternoon, browsing and talking to the people who worked there.
The Dining
I wanted to have some local grub that night since I was spending my day in such a local community. I heard about a pub that served really good walleye sandwiches, so I decided to give that a try. The decor of the place was nice but not flashy, and it was a big room. The walleye – a relatively local freshwater fish – came on a bun that was warm and the fish itself was flaky and really tasty. I had a local beer to go with it and the entire meal was fantastic.
