I recently found myself in Ashland with a day to spare after a meeting was canceled. Instead of getting back on the road and heading home, I decided to spend the day exploring the town. I'd never been in Ashland before and thought it'd be a great chance to get to know the city. I knew finding a place to stay wouldn't be a problem thanks to the HotelTonight app, which left me free to enjoy a great day in town.
The Area
Ashland is located in eastern Kentucky and is part of the Huntington-Ashland Metropolitan Area. The town is the largest city in Boyd County with a population of 21,683. Ashland lies in the Western Allegheny Plateau. I was amazed at what a beautiful city Ashland is. It's close to the outdoors and has a small town feel, but people have access to all the comforts of a city. As I pulled into town, I could tell I was going to love my time in Ashland and couldn't wait to start exploring the city to see all that Ashland had to offer.
Things to Do
I was amazed at how many things there are to do in Ashland. I easily could have spent a week in town seeing all the sights. I started my day in town off with a trip to the Superhero Creamery and T-shirt Factory. It was such a cool place to visit. I got some ice cream, got a t-shirt made and looked at some comics. Then I headed to a beautiful local park. It was really nice to be able to enjoy the nice weather and spend some time outside.
The Food
Whenever I visit a new city, I always like to find the best place that locals eat. I asked around and several people recommended I try a restaurant that specialized in hamburgers. I was so glad I listened to heir advice. The burgers were big and juicy, and the tomatoes and lettuce on the burger tasted so fresh. The burger came with a side of fries which were also delicious. In addition to the great food, the staff was friendly and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. I'll make sure I eat here again during my next trip to Ashland. The food was so good it'd almost be worth the trip just to get another burger.
