HotelTonight – Parker, CO Hotels
I've been driving all over the United States for my job for many years now, and I don't think there's a place that's more interesting from the driver's seat than Colorado. The mountains are majestic, the people are friendly and independent, and the landscape is something to behold. Every time I'm either in Denver, Colorado Springs or Boulder, just to name a few places I visit for work often, I have a nice time, I enjoy the residents and I have great food. One thing I've never really done, however, is spend time in any of the communities between these big cities. On my last trip to Colorado, that all changed. As I was heading south out of Denver, I got a call that there was a winter storm ahead. Rather than chance it, I decided to stop where I was for the night, as the weather was fine where I was. I happened to be near a place called Parker, so I figured I'd explore it for the next 24 hours. I wasn't worried about finding a Parker, CO hotel room, as I travel with HotelTonight. I'd book a room, as soon as I was ready.
Since it was a beautiful day where I was at the time, I wanted to get out and enjoy some fresh air. As it turns out, Parker is a great place to do just that. I found a trailhead near town and jumped on it, not really sure what to expect. What I got was a day filled with unforgettable sights of mountains in the distance, tall grasslands surrounding me, views of the populated valley and more bird life than I think I have ever seen before. I took hundreds of photos both with my phone camera and in my mind.
I had never thought of Colorado as a place that could grow grapes for wine, but lo and behold, there was a well-known wine cellar in town. I decided to go in to have a taste or two, after all that exercise, and I was once again surprised by what I encountered. The wines they offered for tasting were delicious, and the look of the place was remarkable. You really do feel like you're in some sort of wine cellar. I sat and talked to some nice locals and enjoyed the afternoon.
For whatever reason, I felt like pizza that night. A lady at the winery told me about a place that had been serving locals for a long time. The place had that classic pizzeria look, which meant it wasn't fancy but was comfortable. I ordered the supreme, which was probably a mistake because it was so much food. I ate too much, but the thin and crispy crust, the fresh veggie toppings and the creamy cheese all mixed with tasty sauce perfectly.
