HotelTonight – Kingman, AZ Hotels at the Ready

It took me a long time to figure out that when I was driving through the northwestern portion of Arizona, I was in a place that is home to a lot of history. It's easy to not realize that, as there are no big cities in the area and, as I drive through, I only notice the gorgeous countryside that surrounds me on the highway. I've always enjoyed looking at the nature in this part of the world, but part of that was honestly because I had also always regretted not having time to stop and explore any of these communities. The reason is that I'm driving for work, so I'm always hurrying off to the next meeting after finishing the last one. Perhaps I'll stop for gas or even a quick bite to eat, but that's it. On my last drive, that all changed. I got a call telling me that I had the entire day to myself, as all of my meetings had been canceled. I was going to stop and explore Kingman. I wasn't worried about finding a place to stay. My HotelTonight app would book a Kingman, AZ hotel room, as soon as I needed one.

Modern History

I did know enough, at that point, to know that I was driving on Historic Route 66, which was always a bit of a thrill. When I pulled into Kingman, I saw the Route 66 Museum, which I had to go and see. I'm glad I did, as it was enlightening to see how the road was built, what it meant to the local community when it was at its height and what life was like in Kingman, as well as the general area when traffic was heavier coming through town. I spent a couple of hours there, fascinated.

Older History

The Route 66 Museum was not the only piece of history in town, as I discovered later that day. The Mojave Museum of History and Arts is also in Kingman, and I was excited to see that as well. This place takes you back in time prior to settler days when Native Americans roamed the land and built an incredibly intricate and interesting society there. There were artifacts that were hundreds of years old, and some of the exhibits painted a brutally accurate picture of what life was like way back when.

The Dining

I wanted something nice and hearty when it got to dinnertime, and a nice couple at the first museum told me about a Mexican food place that was dynamite. I walked in and sat at one of the old, wooden tables. I could smell the seasonings and hear the grill. I ordered the burrito platter with carne asada, and it was a great choice. The carne was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the warm tortillas they gave me to build my own creations were wonderful. I had a nice beer to wash it all down and ate happily and hungrily.
