HotelTonight – Plover Hotels
If you explore Wisconsin and you see the biggest cities in America's Dairyland, you tend to get to know the northeastern, southeastern and southern parts of the state. That's because those are the areas in which you'll find Green Bay, Milwaukee and Madison respectively. I've always loved coming to Wisconsin, but I hadn't really seen much of it outside of these three regions. One day, I had to drive from Green Bay to Minneapolis, which is a path that cuts across the middle of Wisconsin. When I was roughly halfway there, I got a call that my schedule was suddenly wide open. That meant that I had 24 hours to spend however I wanted. For whatever reason, I decided to stop right there and see what life was like in one of these smaller communities in the middle of the state. I saw a sign for Plover and thought that this was a unique name. I wanted to find out more, so I turned in that direction. I wasn't concerned about finding lodging. I travel with the HotelTonight app. Almost no matter where I am at any given time, I can find a place to stay. I'd book a Plover hotel room later that night.
The Distillery
One thing I knew about Wisconsin was that it is home to breweries. The state's professional baseball team is named after them. I would not have been surprised to see a brewery or three in or around Plover. Instead, I stumbled upon a distillery. Apparently, the place used to be a car dealership, but these days they make their own alcohol. Since I was off for the rest of the day and didn't really need to drive anywhere, I tried a few of their spirits. They were incredibly tasty.
The Park
After enjoying my time at the distillery, I decided to get some exercise. I heard about a huge park nearby that featured hiking and mountain biking trails. I made my way over there and found a beautiful hiking trail that was covered in gigantic trees and lush foliage. I walked around for a couple of hours, enjoying the landscape and the quiet. I took dozens of photos of some of the wildlife, including interesting birds and more rabbits, squirrels and other forest creatures than I could count. It was the perfect way to work up an appetite for dinner.
The Supper Club
I had never been to a supper club before. I didn't even know what this type of dining was all about. I had to try the one I heard about at the park. I walked in and placed my dinner order with the bartender. He poured me an Old Fashioned, which was delicious. When my fish was ready, they came and got me and sat me down. The fried perch plate was outstanding. The side of coleslaw scrumptious. The beer I had with my dinner was perfect. It was a really interesting way to eat.
