HotelTonight – Book Your Hotel in Durant Oklahoma Tonight

Durant is a small city in Oklahoma that is known for its charming little Main Street and its rich Choctaw heritage. This small town has a distinctive culture and a rich history, and Durant locals are very proud of their hometown. This past year, I embarked on a major cross-country road trip, and my route took me right past Durant. However, once I talked to some Oklahoma natives about the small city of Durant, I decided that I wanted to spend a bit more time exploring the area. So to book my hotel in Durant, Oklahoma right then and there, I simply pulled up the HotelTonight app on my phone. Minutes later, I had a great hotel room waiting for me in Durant, so I was ready to start getting to know the authentic heart and soul of the town.

Downtown

The very first place I explored in Durant was its historic downtown. This district is the epicenter of entertainment and activity in Durant, and walking its old-fashioned, quaint streets will give you serious nostalgia. Downtown Durant features lovely little boutiques, locally beloved restaurants and plenty of other great specialty shops. The small-town atmosphere in downtown will give you an immediate sense of what daily life is like in Durant, and it will show you how tight-knit and welcoming this community really is.

Lake Texoma

Just a short drive outside of downtown Durant is Lake Texoma, one of the largest man-made lakes in the country. It's also one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area, as it attracts 8-10 million tourists each year. I understood its popularity as soon as I visited, because this beautiful reservoir is a great place for aquatic recreation, from water skiing and power boating to sailing and wind surfing. In addition, there are two wildlife refuges nearby that locals love to visit for the great hiking, beautiful scenery and, of course, wildlife.

Choctaw Heritage

Durant is home to the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and it's the second largest city in the Choctaw Nation. Because of this, you'll notice the Native American heritage and culture all over Durant, which makes it one of the most interesting and fascinating towns I've visited. Since I wanted to learn more about the Choctaw Nation and its history, I decided to visit both the Fort Washita Historic Site & Museum and the Choctaw Casino Resort while in Durant.
