HotelTonight – Book Your Nevada City Hotel Today

Despite its name, the town of Nevada City is actually located in California, not Nevada. Located in Northern California, this charming old Gold Rush town feels a bit like it has been preserved in a time capsule. The rich history of this town can be seen around every corner, which makes it one of the most interesting places I've visited in a long time. I first stumbled upon Nevada City on a road trip, as I was looking for a place to grab a bit of lunch. I was instantly swept away by the beauty and character of this small California town, so my quick lunch detour turned into an overnight stay in Nevada City. To book my last-minute hotel in Nevada City, I simply pulled up the HotelTonight app on my phone and browsed the selection of nearby hotels. Whenever I need to make spur-of-the-moment changes to my travel plans, I always know that I can rely on HotelTonight. Within minutes on the app, I had found a charming little hotel in the heart of Nevada City, so I was ready to get out and explore all that this lovely little mining town had to offer.

Downtown

Nevada City's Historic Downtown District looks like it belongs in a painting, and it's easily one of the loveliest little downtown areas I've visited. This historic district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it boasts dozens of buildings that date from the early 1900s. The streets of downtown Nevada City often make appearances in Christmas posters and movies, simply because they are full of so much charm and character. I loved wandering the idyllic streets of downtown Nevada City, and this district made me fall in love with the town almost instantly.

Outdoor Recreation

Given its location in Northern California, Nevada City is a perfect destination for anyone that loves outdoor recreation. Nevada City sits on the edge of the Tahoe National Forest, which means that it's just a stone's throw away from great hiking, biking and boating in the summer months, as well as great skiing and snowboarding in the winter months. Since I visited Nevada City in the summer, I took advantage of the warm weather and took a quick trip to Lake Tahoe, where I spent an afternoon kayaking, boating and enjoying one of the most beautiful lakes in the country.

Arts and Entertainment

Nevada City may be a small town, but it actually has a lively entertainment scene. Venues like the Nevada Theatre, Off Broad Street and the Miners Foundry Cultural Center regularly hold live performing arts events, like concerts and plays. Nevada City also hosts various film festivals, so the town certainly isn't lagging when it comes to the arts. Plus, you'll stumble upon a number of incredible art galleries while walking through the historic downtown.

The Gold Rush

One of the reasons why I fell in love with Nevada City was because of its history. The town was founded during the Gold Rush, when miners from all over the country and all over the world came to this region with the hopes of striking gold. At its core, Nevada City is still a mining town, and you can see glimpses of its rich history and legacy all over town. I enjoyed the old-fashioned character and hospitality of Nevada City, and I knew that it was due to the fact that this small town still remembers its origins as a Gold Rush town.

Historic Sites

Given the fact that Nevada City is so connected with its history, there's no shortage of fascinating historic sites to visit while in town. Some of the notable historic sites in the city include The Nevada Theatre, the Bourn House, the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce and the Firehouse Museum. The beautiful old architecture and storied history of these sites will give you a new appreciation for Nevada City, because understanding the city's history is key to really getting a feel for its present culture.

Everyone from outdoors enthusiasts to history buffs will find something to appreciate about Nevada City, which is why I have already recommended it to several of my friends.
