HotelTonight – Cardiff-by-the-Sea Hotels in Seconds

There are communities in San Diego County that few tourists are familiar with, and while visitors are always welcome in these places it's actually a nice break to experience some of these lovely places without having to fight through crowds everywhere you go. I was recently in San Diego for a trade show and wanted to take an extra day to explore one of those communities that I had never seen before. I wanted to spend a day in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, or simply Cardiff as it's called by the people who live there. I didn't have a place to stay, but that wasn't a concern at all as I did have my phone and the HotelTonight app installed. I'd be able to find a Cardiff hotel room in seconds when I was ready for one. All I wanted to focus on at that point was getting myself to this hamlet to see as much of it as possible in 24 hours.

The Cardiff Kook

If you could choose one image that embodies living in Cardiff, it would be the Cardiff Kook. The Kook, as he's called here, is a six-foot tall bronze sculpture of a surfer that stands near the beach and boardwalk. What's interesting about the Kook is that people will regularly dress him up in different costumes. Some of these costumes are a signal that it's a certain time of year while others will pay homage to different sports teams. Whatever the case may be, the Kook is an invitation to respectful expression on the part of the folks who live here, and it was a neat thing to see.

The Views

Cardiff-by-the-Sea is a community that's built into a hillside that eventually slides into the Pacific Ocean. Most of the people in Cardiff live on this hillside, and it's easy to see why. You can get an almost panoramic view of the ocean from just about any point on this hill, so I spent a ton of time just driving around and taking different photos of the ocean from high above it. It made me a bit jealous of the people who lived there, but I was happy to be able to get such a look at something so beautiful.

The Food

Cardiff-by-the-Sea is hardly known as a foodie destination, but it could qualify as one. There are several different types of food here, including Mexican, sushi, steaks and the like, but a local told me to try the little pizza place somewhat buried behind a small shopping mall. I did, and I was very appreciative of the recommendation as soon as the pizza came. The crust was thin and crispy, and you could tell that the ingredients were fresh and organic given the pop of flavor in every bite. It was a great pizza and a very nice evening.

HotelTonight – Cardiff Hotels Are Available

After such a feast and so much walking prior to said feast, I was exhausted. It had been a wonderful day, but it was time to turn in. I pulled out my phone, opened HotelTonight and booked a Cardiff hotel room instantly. I could not wait to collapse into a comfortable bed.
