HotelTonight – Kelowna Hotels
British Columbia is a province in Canada that could easily be a country by itself. There is an enormous cosmopolitan area in Vancouver, a vast wilderness in the northwest of the city and even a breathtakingly beautiful island to the west of the mainland. While quite a few people may not realize it, there is also an enormous part of British Columbia that's largely unexplored when compared to other parts of the province and Canada overall. That's the central portion of British Columbia, known as "The Interior" to folks who live nearby. I had always wanted to visit there, but never really had the chance. Thankfully, that all changed for me recently when I found myself with an extra day to spare on a work trip and a relatively short drive to that part of the world. I wanted to pick one community to visit, and I decided on Kelowna, as I had heard that it's a beautiful place. I wasn't concerned about finding a place to stay, either, as I always travel with my HotelTonight app. I'd find a Kelowna hotel room as soon as I was ready to call it a night.
The Produce
It's funny, but I got to experience a big part of Kelowna before I really pulled into town at all. That's because as I got closer, I noticed that there were a lot of different fruit stands in place. After seeing more than 5 or 6, I had to stop and check this out. I stopped at a stand that had some of the biggest peaches I had ever seen along with some of the reddest apples I could imagine. I ate a peach and an apple, bought a few more of each and then picked up some luscious looking cherries for later. This is a fertile area.
The Lake
What's better on a warm summer day than a nice pile of delicious fresh fruit and a swim in a warm, clean and inviting lake? Not much in my book, and that's what I got to do in Kelowna. Kelowna sits somewhere near the middle of Lake Okanagan, which is an enormous body of water. The people around here make the most of it as well, as I saw kayakers, boaters, swimmers and others out enjoying this beautiful place. I managed to find some shorts to use and went for a refreshing swim. Maybe I'd get to town yet that day.
The Cuisine
Given the fertile land around here and what I had already seen, I wanted to eat at some sort of farm-to-table establishment. I asked someone along the lakeshore where I could find one, and he pointed me in the direction of a local place that was relatively new. It was a good recommendation. The salad could have been its own dinner, as the tomatoes were enormous and the greens were actually crunchy and crisp. The salmon I had, crusted with almonds, was perfectly cooked.
